So I’m out of town for a few days and I come back to find out OPPO has lost it’s affiliation with Jalopnik?
What gives? Who’d we piss off?
We’re not in the dropdown anymore and we’re now oppositelock.kinja.com instead of oppositelock.jalopnik.com?
WHAT DID YOU GUYS DO?
Remember, I was out of town for 5 days so if this question was asked 35,295,875,634,958 times already, I didn’t see it. I did scroll through yesterday at least.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:12 |

could someone explain what is going on why arent we friemds with jalopnik anymore?
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:13 |

A mix of plagiarism and asking for press cars while pointing to FP’d articles made Jellopicnic sever their ties with the great Oppo. Hopefully things will be quieter from now on.

IT makes me feel quite a bit better that I’m not the only one out of the loop.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:14 |

they was jealous of our swag so they dumped us. it was totes mutual.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:15 |

Only 35,295,875,634,957 times. They stripped all the sub blogs from Gawkerdom. I think it has something to do with Gawker wanting to distance themselves from instances of plagiarism and © infringement. Nothing has really changed aside from the URL.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:15 |

Gof, dude. We have a search button for a reason, guy . Fuckin’ newbs, always asking the same questions over and over again when it’s been covered, like, a literal billion times
Amidoinitrite?
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:15 |

our fedoras?
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:17 |

This happened to other sub blogs aswell.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:17 |

Well if it was only 35,295,875,634,957 I don’t feel bad at all.
But that’s lame. Whatevs. OPPO STRONG
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:18 |
|
We got fedoras?
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:19 |

point to FP’d articles
What does this mean?
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:19 |
|
I havent been away and I still dont know what is happening. what I can figure is jalopnik and oppo split for reasons. I do know everything seems to still work and the website redirects ok
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:20 |
|
sorry, that should have been while pointing to FP’d articles. I’ll fix that.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:20 |

I do fedora tricks.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:20 |

From what i heard it was a lot of copyright issues and also some people tried to get free press cars saying they were with Jalopnik. So now we are unrelated
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:21 |
|
So, somebody actually tried to scam a press car? That’s nuts.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:21 |
|
it’s always those newfags, no wait that’s /b/ umm are any of us doing anything right?
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:21 |
|
UGH
THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS (like press cars)
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:21 |
|
yeah gulf livery ones with our gold subscriptions.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:22 |
|
Not just someone, MULTIPLE PEOPLE. They’re violating rule #1 of Oppo!
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:22 |
|
someone just said people were trying to get free press cars saying they were with Jalopnik, as well as copyright issues.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:23 |
|
Is that facepalm directed towards me?
I clearly said I was out of town for like 5 days
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:23 |
|
People with power. That’s who we pissed off this time.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:24 |
|
if we were still associated with Jalopnik FP you would be lol.
Search doesn’t work for shit on this site or any other Kinja site. Metadata and search terms are part of my career, no one uses them right on here.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:24 |
|
no one’s doing anything right.
(I know you’re kidding, but I’ve been on oppo for over 3 years btw)
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:25 |
|
Basically, Oppo was removed because certain websites were bitchy about copyright infringement on Oppo and thought it was all part of Jalopnik and it wasn’t. And supposedly some (or a few) douchenozzles tried to scam manufacturers into lending them a vehicle for a test drive, saying they were with Jalopnik. Everything about Oppo has stayed the same, with the exception of the web address. And the link in the dropdown. Which might not necessarily be a bad thing.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:25 |
|
The main points:
All user-run sub-blogs were moved to *.kinja.com.
Some moran at one of the other sites posted a plagiarized article that was pretty much copy/pasted from cracked.com.
Some other morans were posting copyrighted pictures without giving credit to the source.
Yet another moran or collection of morans tried to order press cars using their Oppo posting privileges as proof of employment @ Jalopnik.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:26 |
|
still confused. why would they split the blog because a oppo dork tried saying they were a jalopnik writer.
copyright issues?

Im not mad, but this was worthy of a facepalm regardless.

Here’s the official notice. http://oppositelock.kinja.com/the-change-to-…
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:31 |

Owners of pictures that we googled to put on a post were thinking we made money off of them, and not giving them credit, or something like that.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:32 |
|
I was going to lay into you for the spelling of moron before I saw the picture. Well played.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:33 |

I honestly have to know. WHODUNNIT. This requires journalism and investigation. Neither are skills I (or apparently anyone in the gawkerverse) possess.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:34 |
|
It wasn’t just Jalopnik though. Every major blog and their respective sub blog split off as well. I guess it was just too much risk for them to run.
And yeah people taking images without giving proper credit
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:35 |
|
I am just tickled with curiosity I’d like this investigated further if that is true.
Not trying to blow up anyone’s spot, (although in this case it might be deserved) but if someone really had the balls to do something that f*cking silly, I’d enjoy reading the series of events culminating in the PR rep saying something like
...um, no. gtfo
.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:42 |

Glad I missed out then. I’m more of a flat cap kind of guy.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 15:45 |

You answered your own question. You went out of town, and everything went to shit. Turns out Mercury is an important part of the Oppo diet, and its absence displeased the Tarvis Of Kulski. The Great Rift was decreed from on high by the Hardibird circling overhead, watching us all. Way to go, dude.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 16:10 |

Thanks that’s helpful!

FUCK
I should have done more Mercury Muscle burn outs this past weekend.

In my opinion it wasn’t. I searched through multiple pages of posts and found nothing, no one talking about it.
Plenty of people commented on my post not knowing about the change. This didn’t happen 6 months ago or something, it was the day I went out of town.
Whatever man
![]() 05/26/2015 at 16:18 |

lol
Digital Asset Manager, my job is to keep track of digital files and make them easily findable by people that don’t understand search terms.

Do you know the term,”lighthearted”?
I was trying for humor apparently I failed Utterly.
Dont get so damn flustered

oh ok that makes some sense. but who runs this place now nibbles?
![]() 05/26/2015 at 16:30 |

Wait, not only did you cause the Great Rift, but you failed to meet the ‘Merica Burnout Standard on one of the designated ‘Merica Weekends? Well, shit. You forgot the rules?
Section 427/850cfm-302-4V
:
He who fails to meet the MBS in any suitable vehicle is at risk of excommunication. The Offender must proceed to generate at least 37cu/ft/min of tire smoke posthaste, and provide video documentation of said penance or risk being smote personally the Minions of the Orlovian Order, may they hoon forever.

![]() 05/26/2015 at 16:41 |

damn
Good thing I don’t have 850 CFM or I’d be in trouble.
![]() 05/26/2015 at 17:31 |

I saw some posts of people asking questions, saw a post from Patrick...I think...saying distancing from Gawker blah blah blah but nothing really processed until I couldn’t find Oppo in the dropdown.
You have some good company in your confusion (me). The best company, if I do say so myself.

I need more TBs to properly manage my digital assets.

I signed it as well

I take offense at the statement that no one is tagging things correctly. I use the tags ALL THE GODDAMNED TIME . I just rarely post on Oppo. =)
Also, the search feature is better than it used to be. Still not wonderful, but leagues better than it was a year ago.
![]() 05/27/2015 at 09:27 |

Quite good company, indeed.
![]() 05/27/2015 at 10:08 |

I’ve got a seemingly endless supply! And most of mine are car images as well.
![]() 05/27/2015 at 10:10 |
|
Yeah it’s better, but it’s far from great. (...kinja...)
I tag the hell out of my posts normally. I was lazy on this one. You can find my Montego stuff with the tag Montego, my The Cask posts by plenty of searches, easiest being “Cask” or “The Cask”
![]() 06/12/2015 at 14:08 |
|
god the search on kinja is terrible...
i usually use duckduckgo to search within the site instead
![]() 06/12/2015 at 14:16 |
|
Yeah I literally manager 10’s of thousands of assets a year and am entirely in charge of the metadata terms and teaching people how to search for things.
This site blows for search and it’s entirely the fault of the people posting, not the platform. Most people don’t tag articles.
![]() 06/12/2015 at 14:34 |
|
i’m often at a loss as what to tag, as a millennial i know it should come naturally but there are so many shit tags. Do i do #truck? or #worktruck or #work truck #truckyeah? #beliebe?
i think we need to establish to primary tag pools

Try to place your mind in the head of the person who might be searching for your post.
for example, this code Montego Project will bring you to the below link if you search it for all my Montego Posts.
http://oppositelock.kinja.com/tag/montego-pr…
If you click on this actual post by me you can get an idea of how I tag my posts:
http://oppositelock.kinja.com/montego-upgrad…
If you want, send me a link to an article/post you’ve done and I’ll tell you what I would include.
